Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits to having lessons at the Kodurand Violin School?
We are exceptionally qualified (and friendly!) teachers with many years experience performing at the very highest levels. We are also one of the few violin schools in the South West to offer 4 free student concerts a year, a violin ensemble and lessons on both modern and baroque violin.
What age do you teach children?
The starting age for learning the violin depends on the individual child but we have taught children as young as 4 years old. We recommend parents give us a call to discuss options, followed by a trial lesson.
Do you teach music theory and aural?
We teach both music theory and aural up to grade 5, integrated into the lessons. For students taking exams we suggest students have extra time with their pianist to help prepare them for the aural component.
What if I don't want to take exams?
We tailor lessons to your requirements. Exams are not for everyone, and for that reason we teach a broad range of repertoire to keep students motivated. We perform violin duets regularly as a way of introducing key aspects of musicianship and ensemble playing, and many of our younger students also enjoy taking part in local festivals and orchestras.
Do you provide references?
We are very happy to provide references at any time.
Are you DBS checked? (Disclosure and Barring Service)
We both hold up to date DBS checks.
